Vascular Screenings at Glen Burnie High School
February 28, 2013 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
Through the efforts of volunteers and the use of lectures, educational materials, free ultrasound testing and meetings with cardiovascular specialists, DTC brings the important message to the public that complications of cardiovascular disease can be prevented. The testing portion of the program consists of a blood pressure check and a non-invasive ultrasound examination of your carotid arteries, abdominal aorta, and evaluation of the circulation in your legs.
DTC vascular screening eligibility criteria includes the following:
- Age greater than 60
- Age greater than 50 with one or more of the following risk factors:
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Smoking
- Family history of vascular disease
Including stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, kidney failure, sudden cardiac death, or abdominal aoritc aneurysms.
The DTC screening examinations that are performed are preliminary studies only; therefore, it is crucial that you follow up with your primary care physician regarding your results. The results are forwarded to both you and your primary care physician, approximately 7-10 business days after the test date. If you have been previously screened by Dare to C.A.R.E. and had a normal screening, you may return in five (5) years.
The free vascular screening examinations consist of the following:
- Carotid Artery Duplex
- Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound
- Renal Artery Ultrasound
- Extremity Artery Evaluation
